Moving Two GasJack Gas Chamber Units: Canada to Indonesia

The Challenge

Transporting industrial gas chamber units takes detailed planning, specialized securing, and careful management particularly when handling out-of-gauge cargo. Our 1UP Cargo Canada team recently coordinated the preparation and export of two used gas chamber units from Calgary, Alberta, to Jakarta, Indonesia. Each unit weighed approximately 3,700 kg and measured 11 ft 11 inches long, 6 ft 5 inches wide, and 8 ft 10 inches high. Since both units were shipped without external packaging and exceeded the flat rack height by 74 cm, the cargo needed carefully engineered stowage and a securing plan before it could be transported.

The 1UP Solution

Both gas chamber units were positioned centrally along a 40 ft flat rack to maintain balanced weight distribution throughout the journey. Each unit was secured using six heavy-duty 2-inch cord straps, providing a combined rated securing capacity.

Treated timber blocking was installed and secured at both ends and between the chambers to prevent movement during road, rail, and marine transportation. An independent marine surveyor also inspected the completed arrangements and confirmed that the cargo was indeed properly secured in accordance with applicable IMO guidelines.

The accompanying project photographs highlight the completed flat rack setup, including the timber blocking, cross-lashing arrangements, and final positioning of both units prior to departure.

Technical Summary

  • Origin: Calgary, Alberta Canada

  • Destination: Jakarta, Indonesia, via Singapore and China

  • Commodity: Two GasJack gas chamber units with accessories and fittings

  • Equipment: 40 ft Flat Rack

  • Weight: 3,700 kg per unit

  • Dimensions: 11 ft 11 inches × 6 ft 5 inches × 8 ft 10 inches per unit

  • Out-of-Gauge: 74 cm over-height, in gauge on both sides

The Outcome

Once the final inspection was completed, both gas chamber units were confirmed to be adequately blocked, braced, and secured against the forces expected during multimodal transportation. The completed flat rack was prepared for export from Vancouver, with all securing requirements verified before the ocean journey to Jakarta. This project demonstrates the importance of technical planning, professional cargo securing, and independent verification when transporting specialized industrial equipment across international supply chains.

At 1UP Cargo, we provide carefully coordinated solutions for oversized and technically demanding cargo, so every shipment is prepared to move safely and efficiently from origin to destination.
